FAQ

Got questions about our concrete pet bowls? We’ve got you covered!

1- Are concrete pet bowls safe for cats and dogs?

Our products have been tested for heavy metal migration and comply with the EN 71-3 safety standard. This standard evaluates whether paints and coatings release harmful substances, and is commonly used to ensure material safety.

That said, EN 71-3 does not certify suitability for direct food contact.
For this reason, our designs use concrete primarily as a base, and are typically paired with stainless steel bowls, a widely recommended material for feeding.

The EN 71-3 certification also provides reassurance in case of incidental contact (such as licking), ensuring that the materials do not pose a risk.

As with any product, especially those claiming to be “food-safe,” it’s always a good idea to choose carefully and rely on transparent, tested materials.

2- Are concrete pet bowls too heavy?

Concrete pet bowls are not light 🙂
That’s actually what keeps them stable during feeding. If you’re tired of bowls sliding or tipping over, a heavier bowl can make a noticeable difference.

However, for our larger designs, we add some additives to lighten the concrete because nobody needs a 10+ kg food bowl. You can see the approximate weight of each design in the details section on the product pages.

3- Are concrete pet bowls suitable to use outdoors?

Yes, concrete pet food bowls are perfect for outdoor use because they are durable, weather-resistant, and won’t rot or rust. They’re ideal for patios and gardens. However, concrete does change over time as it ages. So, much like terrazzo surfaces, it benefits from occasional maintenance and can be used for years when cared for properly.

Stainless steel we use is also ok to use outdoors. Though it can discolor if exposed to heavy rain or high salt environments.  Therefore we recommend to not left the stainless steel insert outside for a long time to ensure longer lifespan.

4- How do you clean a concrete pet bowl?

  • Wipe clean with a damp cloth for daily use.
  • For deeper cleaning, wash gently by hand with mild soap.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals, descalers, or abrasive cleaners.

Concrete, much like terrazzo surfaces, benefits from occasional maintenance and can be used for years when cared for properly.

5- Will my cat/dog use a concrete pet bowl?

While most cats/dogs quickly adjust to a new food bowl, some may need a little more time 🙂 If your cat/dog resists using the new food bowl, start using it with highly desirable food (tuna, wet pate) to create positive association; gradually replace with regular food once they accept the bowl. If your cat avoids deep bowls, a whisker-friendly food bowl might provide a more comfortable feeding experience.

6- Do concrete pet bowls scratch floors?

The base is surface-friendly and supported with silicone feet to help prevent scratching and improve grip.

7- Are concrete pet bowls safe to ship?

Each pet bowl is securely cushioned and packaged to prevent damage during shipping.

Still, in case of something happens, we’ll make sure to compensate. If you’re having some issues regarding to this, please contact us asap.

8- Why are concrete pet bowls more expensive?

Each concrete pet bowl is individually made and manual intensive.
The materials, production process, and small-scale manufacturing all contribute to the final price.
If you’re looking for a functional object with a distinct design, it tends to feel worth it.

9- Will my concrete pet bowl look exactly like the photos?

Since each piece is handmade, slight variations can occur.
The overall shape, color, and character remain consistent—those small differences are part of the process and it is part of the material’s beauty.

10- Do I really need a concrete pet bowl?

Not necessarily 🙂
But a well-designed feeding bowl can make everyday routines feel a bit more considered—for both you and your pet.
